the place, a subset of the HASAMI brand, is a project focused on developing novel manufacturing techniques within the processes of shaping and molding.
Hasami porcelain production is characterized by a specialized division of labour that developed over centuries, where shaping, molding, glazing, and firing are handled independently. Though allowing for more advanced techniques and higher levels of efficiency to develop, this system of production has been fraught with troubles, from exorbitant production costs, to a deficiency of well-trained successors, and there has been fear that this is the beginning of the end for a unique ceramics industry and its culture.
