Komaneko

Inspired by the Imari porcelain exported to Europe in the early Meiji period, Komaneko consists of tatara dishes with raised-character seals. Two cats form a pair, one with its mouth open and the other closed, in a playful twist on the more well-known komainu, the name of lion dog statues traditionally placed at shrines to ward off evil spirits.
